FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How long will a job take?
Usually between two and four weeks. Some processes such as
gluing or French polishing must be allowed to dry or harden for 24
hours or longer before proceeding to the next step and this
inevitably causes delays.
Can you explain about gluing?
Much of my work involves sticking wood surfaces together and for
this I use scotch glue made from animal bones. It is heated to near
boiling point. The two surfaces are then clamped together usually
using metal cramps or steel weights and occasionally even lumps
What stains do you use?
Many different colours and combinations, just like an artist.
Sometimes I use water based stains and sometimes spirit based,
depending on the job.
Are all your materials and methods “Green” and environmentally friendly?
I hope and believe so.
Do you do Upholstering, Caning or Rush Seating?
No, but I can arrange for these to be done by specialists.
What will the work cost me?
This wholly depends on what is to be done.
If you can email me one or two photos of the problem, I will give
you a preliminary idea of the cost. Then a firm estimate, as soon
as I see the piece, in my workshop.
Prices are based on an estimated time charge and include all
materials to be used (wood, glue, veneers, screws, polish etc.,)
unless otherwise stated.
There is no VAT to pay
When do I have to make payment?
Payment is due on collection by cheque or cash.
